Siding - Shou Sugi Ban

Research into sustainable, authentic, and innovative exterior siding options began as soon as the focus of our project shifted to designing low-impact homes. While our knowledge of Shou Sugi Ban was limited to a local exhibition featuring an artist who experimented with charred wood, it sparked a deeper exploration into its history, process, and functionality. There are sources for charred siding available in the Great Lakes region, but we’re also considering the possibility of promoting or even hosting local Shou Sugi Ban production. More to come.
